Diet Tips for Piles

Digestive health plays a decisive role in preventing and managing anorectal conditions like piles (hemorrhoids) and anal fissures. Straining caused by chronic constipation puts excessive pressure on the blood vessels surrounding the lower rectum and anus.

1. Increase Soluble & Insoluble Fiber Intake

Dietary fiber absorbs water and softens stools, making bowel movements smooth and effortless. Include oats, barley, apples, psyllium husk (isabgol), beans, and green leafy vegetables in your daily diet. Aim for at least 25 to 35 grams of fiber every day.

2. Stay Abundantly Hydrated

Fiber alone is not enough—it needs water to build bulk and stay soft. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses (2.5 to 3 liters) of fresh water daily. Warm water in the morning can also stimulate peristalsis.

3. Avoid Excessive Spicy & Processed Foods

Highly processed foods, refined flour (maida), fried snacks, and excessive red chili can irritate the intestinal lining and aggravate burning sensations during bowel movements.

4. Incorporate Probiotics into Your Routine

Fresh curd (yogurt) and buttermilk (chaach) contain healthy gut bacteria that improve overall digestion and prevent bloating or irregular bowel habits.

5. Never Delay the Natural Urge

Ignoring the urge to pass stool causes the rectum to absorb water from the stool, rendering it hard and difficult to pass later. Always respond promptly to bowel urges.

When to Consult a Doctor?

If you notice bleeding, sharp pain, or swelling despite dietary changes, do not self-medicate with random over-the-counter laxatives. Consult our doctor at Janki Piles Clinic for an accurate diagnosis.
